João Pedro

João Pedro is a freshman studying music who is originally from Annapolis, Brazil but now lives in Florida. He has always been interested in music, particularly the piano, which he finds beautiful and exciting. He received a musical keyboard from his aunt, and when he played it for the first time, he felt a great sense of joy and excitement. Although he sometimes lacks confidence in his abilities, he has learned to share his music with others. John Pedro is interested in creating soundtracks for films or games, and he would like to collaborate with other musicians in the future .

Adesuwa Dawodu

Adesuwa Dawodu is a web developer working on a budgeting tool called Prin & Bills to help international students pay their prin bills. Ms. Dawodu, who is from Lagos, Nigeria, and majoring in mechanical engineering, has used budgeting tools before but found them expensive and harder to comprehend. She has learned the importance of testing new features when developing and putting herself in positions where she can interface with and learn from others. The project has been a fun and insightful process for Ms. Dawodu, who has gained a lot and grown in many ways as a developer.

Julie Mirambo

Juliet Mirambo is a student from Kenya majoring in Engineering Science and Chemistry. She completed an internship at the Midwest Sterilization Corporation in Jackson, MO, where she sterilized surgical materials for organ patients. During her internship, she was given challenging projects that required resilience and critical thinking. She also learned new software. The experience taught her the importance of teamwork expressing her views and she feels that it has prepared her for the future, giving her the confidence to search for jobs and “put herself out there.”.

Mercy reflects on her personal growth over the past four years while living in a different country as a student. She acknowledges the challenges she faced but expresses pride in taking on those challenges. She mentions that she has gained a better understanding of different cultures and has learned to appreciate and share her own culture.She encourages fellow international students to embrace who they are and take pride in their uniqueness.
